Vision and Philosophy

Over the past several years, while
working as a volunteer in a middle school media center, I have come to
realize that the school library media center is the central location of
knowledge for the school. In schools where the media center program is
strong and a vital part of the school community, students, faculty and the
school community as a whole are supported and provided with access to a wide
variety of information resources. It is vital that the media center
program provide the information resources that cater to the student population
and curriculum of that particular school. For
this reason I feel that a well-rounded media center should be
dedicated to maintaining a library media program that supports, complements, and
expands the instructional program of the school. In addition the media center
should be a place where the entire school community, students, faculty,
administration, and parents, can receive support and guidance for their pursuit of
reading enjoyment.
As a media specialist, I believe my
role is vital in maintaining current materials, providing access to information,
implementing programs that will provide students with the skills they need to
utilize information, collaborating with teachers to provide learning experiences
for students, and providing support and a nurturing environment where the entire
school community feels welcome. In
doing these things I hope to develop and maintain a media center
program that provides the instruction and guidance in order for its students,
staff and community to become lifelong learners.
